For This hole is a half-dream of a dune, Yashaswini has been following different holes found in Marwan’s space, grasping, recording, and animating the sounds they leak in and out of Marwan, from (and to) perhaps as far as the in-between-the-walls, the street, the neighborhood, the city, the earth below, the Noord-Zuid lijn, and water-filtering-dunes.

With the project, Yashaswini aims to bring sounds that are at the edge of audibility, excavated from tiny, hidden holes within the space of Marwan, to the foreground. In order to highlight what gets left out, marginalized, or pushed to the periphery of one’s eyes or ears. She intends to use the holes in the space as a cue to journey inwards from the surface to deeper crusts of the earth where historical, geological, and metaphysical mysteries can come into sense. She will mix the live, uncontrolled sounds from Marwan with recordings she made at the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen.

This project was being made possible with a growing group of people, up until now including Srivirat Mudumba, Nell Schwan, Marianna Maruyama, and Sarah Naqvi. ❤️!

Furthermore, This hole is a half-dream of a dune is supported by Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst, and is part of Marwan’s year of Leakage, which is supported by Mondriaan Fonds and held (up) with the help of our community.

Marwan would not be able to be what it currently is without AKINCI gallery.
